Early life
David low was a political cartoonist born on the 7th of april, 1891. His father was a chemist called David brown low. Really imaginative names I know. He was born in Dunedin and went to primary school there until His family moved to Christchurch, where he went to Christchurch boy”s high school until his brother died. He was then taken out of school because his parents Believed that his brother died because he was weakened by school work. Okay then. His father was an interesting man, who taught his young boys to swear, bet, smoke, read and use foul language at a young age. His first cartoon was published in 1902. He was eleven years old and his work was a three panel comic published in the british comic big budget.
career
He was a political cartoonist who mainly lived in the United kingdom. He made a successful career in cartooning, despite the fact he was self taught. He made most of his success by making comics that made fun of insane dictators Like Hitler, mussolini, and stalin. At the peak of his career in 1933, because he made fun of people, any newspapers with his work were banned in germany. A similar ban was placed in 1935 in italy as he made fun of insane european dictators. His career began when he got a job working for the Canterbury Times in 1910. The next year he moved to Australia And began working on the bulletin, a political and business magazine. During his time at the bulletin, he created the 1916 masterpiece “the imperial conference” making fun of Billy Hughes, who was at that time the prime minister of australia. When Billy discovered said masterpiece, he called Low a bastard. Truly amazing.
After his time working on the bulletin he moved to england and worked at the london star for about 8 years. Then in 1927 he was invited to work at the evening standard, which he accepted. At the evening standard, he produced a numerous amount of comics about the australian civil war, the italian invasion of Ethiopia, and the 1936 summer olympics. In 1937, he began working working on a comic strip titled “Hit and Muss”.
Late life
He remained in england for the rest of his life. He left the evening standard in 1950 and went to work at the Daily herald where he stayed until 1953. He then Left the daily herald and went to the Manchester guardian. And then, he got a knighthood in 1962for some reason. All he did was draw cartoons but he is now called sir david alexander cecil Low.
but sadly the next year, he passed away at his home on the 19th of september, 1963. Hisobituary described him as the dominant cartoonist of the western world.
